Biography

Prof. Adriana Borriello obtained her Master Degree in Biological Science with ‘summa cum laude’ in 1991 at the University of Naples ‘Federico II’. In 1999, she received the PhD in Cellular Biochemistry at the Second University of Naples, where in 2007 she also got a Specialty School Degree in Clinical Biochemistry. She spent two years (1993-95) as visiting researcher at the ‘Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and ‘Krebs Institute’ University of Sheffield, UK. From 2007 to 2015 she was Assistant Professor in Nutritional Sciences (2007-14) and in Biochemistry (2014-2015). Since november 2015, she is Associate Professor in Biochemistry at the Medical School of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”.
Prof. Borriello has published more than 60 papers in highly-impacted international journals. She participated at several National and International prestigious Conferences. She serves as Editorial Board Member of “New Horizons in Translational Medicine” ELSEVIER, and as Associate Editor of Stem Cell Epigenetics, Smart Science & Technology LLC.
Her main scientific interests fall in the field of basic biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology. They regard: 1. the mechanisms of cell division cycle regulation in normal and transformed cells. Current studies focus on the synthetic and post-synthetic control of the Cip/Kip inhibitors p21Cip1, p27Kip1 e p57Kip2, and their relevance in cell growth, differentiation and cancer treatment. Particular emphasis is paid to the identification and functional characterization of phosphorylatable residues in these proteins. 2. Effects of natural dietary molecules (resveratrol, hydroxyyrosol, and other compounds produced during food digestion and metabolism, as butyrate) on cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis. Molecular analysis of the mechanisms by which they are able to interfere with the signal transduction pathways and gene expression, modulating the proteins involved in cell cycle regulation, differentiation or apoptosis are investigated. 3. Effects of natural dietary molecules and drugs, such as retinoic acid and Bcr-Abl inhibitors, on proliferation and differentiation of human mesenchymal stromal cells from bone marrow and on the general molecular mechanisms of the osteogenesis and adipogenesis processes.
